Ms. Shelley Lopez has been elected the new President and CEO of MIJAC. Ms. Lopez holds a degree in Business Administration and has expertise in medicine, dentistry, grant writing, music and entertainment (publicist and events planner), immigration and more. As a 2023 Participatory Budget Delegate for the Healthcare Committe in Evanston, IL and serving as a member of the Evanston Cricket Club, Ms. Lopez’s commitment to the community, its people and the Jamaican diaspora, is immeasurable. Ms. Lopez is off to a great start in drafting the vision of the future Cultural Center and has been working hard at implementing projects for children and adults alike, all while seeking to secure and identify funding sources and corporate sponsors.

Aligned with the mission of MIJAC for a healthier community, Ms. Absolam is at the forefront of ensuring that the community’s knowledge and awareness on various topics are given in real time. As a devoted community pillar, Ms. Absolam can be seen supporting events, in-services and giving advice to the youth. Ms. Absolam notes that she is very resourceful and knowledgeable in the healthcare industry and will be valuable to the Jamaican community helping to live better lives with better health outcomes. Ms. Absolam is currently sharing the transitional tasks of MIJAC with Ms. Lopez and looks forward to working on the various projects of MIJAC.
